Road rehabilitation and resurfacing starting May 27

Road rehabilitation and resurfacing work will start the week of May 27 in two areas of the community.

The upcoming work consists of drainage improvements, culvert replacements, pulverization of existing asphalt, road base grading and compacting, hot mix asphalt paving, granular shouldering, and boulevard restorations.

The work will take place in the following areas:

Kilworthy Road area (starting May 27 to Aug. 30)

This work involves Kilworthy Road, from Highway 11 to just west of Arthur Schulz Road...

Road closure notice: Barkway Road

UPDATE (May 24) - Barkway Road will reopen at 4:30 p.m. today. Additional remedial work will take place early next week.


Location: Barkway Road – just south of the Ryde Community Centre. 

Road closure period: Evening of Thursday, May 23 until 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 24.

Reason for closure: Culvert collapse.

40th annual Mayor’s Tea on June 5

It is a landmark year for the Mayor’s Tea and people with historic ties to the event, as well as individuals who just enjoy a great gathering, won’t want to miss out.

“This will be our 40th annual tea, which is pretty significant,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said. “To think we have been coming together as a community like this for such a long time is truly special.”

Request for temporary opening of road allowance

Daniel Readman made a deputation to council.

Readman is president and co-owner of Rumball and Associates in Gravenhurst.

He asked council for the road allowance to be opened off the end of Picard Lane. This would be to access the company’s shop.

He said nearby Xavier Road, another point of access, is new and they don’t wish their trucks to damage it – hence the request to use Picard Lane.

The Town of Gravenhurst is inviting residents to submit photographs they have taken that showcase the spirit of our community. 

The purpose of this call for submissions is to find an appropriate photo to display on the wall in the council chambers at 3-5 Pineridge Gate. 

This initiative is spearheaded by the Public Art Advisory Committee and submissions are welcome until June 26. 

Entries will be reviewed by the committee. If the committee selects an image the photographer will receive an honorarium for their work.
